Easter  - Getting Ready for Palm Sunday

If we were in church together today, we would be starting our series on Easter. So, let’s talk about Palm Sunday. It’s not until April 5th, but there’s a lot to talk about! Palm Sunday is when Jesus came back to Jerusalem before he did on the cross. People were EXCITED to see Him. What do palm leaves have to do with the story?
You can look up and read Matthew 21:1-11 in your own bible. Here is what it says:

Jesus and his followers were coming closer to Jerusalem. But first they stopped at Bethphage at the hill called the Mount of Olives. From there Jesus sent two of his followers into the town. 2 He said to them, “Go to the town you can see there. When you enter it, you will find a donkey tied there with its colt. Untie them and bring them to me. 3 If anyone asks you why you are taking the donkeys, tell him, ‘The Master needs them. He will send them back soon.’”

Can you make a noise like a donkey?

4 This was to make clear the full meaning of what the prophet said: 5 “Tell the people of Jerusalem,
‘Your king is coming to you. He is gentle and riding on a donkey. He is on the colt of a donkey.’”
6 The followers went and did what Jesus told them to do. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt to Jesus. They laid their coats on the donkeys, and Jesus sat on them. 8 Many people spread their coats on the road before Jesus. Others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 Some of the people were walking ahead of Jesus. Others were walking behind him. All the people were shouting,
“Praise[a] to the Son of David! God bless the One who comes in the name of the Lord! Praise to God in heaven!”
10 Then Jesus went into Jerusalem. The city was filled with excitement. The people asked, “Who is this man?”11 The crowd answered, “This man is Jesus. He is the prophet from the town of Nazareth in Galilee.”

You guys this is an amazing time. Jesus is riding in on a donkey and people are EXCITED to see him. One of the words they said was HOSANA. It’s kind of like when we say WAHOOOOO! Jesus is here! They were so excited they put their coats and leaves down for his donkey to walk across – kind of like when celebrities put down a red carpet.

This is only the beginning of the Easter story. This week (if we still have mail) I am going to send you some supplies so you can make some palm leaves and remember the story of Jesus entering Jerusalem. If your address is not in the church directory, please have a grown up text it to me at 214.280.9406. Then, I’ll post a video to show you exactly what to do with the supplies.

I miss you guys so much! I love you. Jesus loves you and I can’t wait to see you again soon!
